I know there are Australians amongst us. There are action movie nuts here as well. There may also be Australian action movie fans here to boot!

So? Anybody see the latest Mad Max movie? Twice? Thrice? Whatcha think?

@tsarstepan,
Is 300 million worldwide for a weekend not a pretty good number?

I dont know the breakouts that they need to recover with showings and all.

It wasnt number 1 in the US but it didnt do badly no?

Its kinda like any "cover". Its only competition is itself and thats often hard to live up to.

At this point? It just broke even. The rule of thumb is to take the production budget ($150 million ) and times it by two to account for the marketing budget. So...? It did relatively well considering, the film still has China and a few other markets to open theatrically at. Plus the studios still will get some revenue from the rental market, DVD/BlueRay sales, etc....

It's worth seeing for the visuals (especially the polecats) if nothing else.

My best friend dragged me to see it.

The best part? You can now witness the whole Mad Max phenomenon without having to so much as look at Mel Gibson. Laughing

@tsarstepan,
An Aussie, though not an action movie fan, but if Mel Gibson isn't in it then it can't be all bad.

@Krumple,
I don't understand the whole "Flame throwing guitar player" meme from the movie. What does that mean? Is it a reference to something or some other movie? I don't get it.

I think they were trying to hit on two things with this.

The first being a kind of battle call. Instead of using something lame like a trumpet why not an over the top guitar playing guy hanging off the front of a truck? It's suppose to keep the battle energy high and intense.

The second is, it's an attempt to show his status as a leader. Extravagant display of power having a huge stack of speakers while a guy jams away. For a post apocalyptic scene it would be very excessive. You would have to have a lot of things taken care of to pull that off in a wasteland.

Laser beams fired from heavy metal guitars are a proven way of defeating a Martian invasion. You're obviously wasting your life by not watching enough cartoons.

@glitterbag,
If you're going into a Mad Max flick (or any other post-apocalyptic action movie) expecting The Brothers Karamazov or James Joyce's Ulysses or the cinematic version of Pablo Picasso's Guernica then ... you're going to be really disappointed.
