Men have generally considered “Diet Drinks” as something for Women and it is not “Cool” for Men to worry about things like that. Coke Zero has successfully targeted the Male 18-35 market with this product. The core branding of coke remains however the Use of Black as the core colour and the associate imagery and graphics use in the advertising and marketing of Coke Zero is all geared at MEN!

NY Daily News
New Coke Zero ads target men
Diet coke is targeted towards women, but new Coke Zero ads focus on sports addictions and “guys being guys.”

@paultesoro,
I wouldn't include the UK or Europe in your reckoning.

Over here, diet drinks have never been regarded as 'something for women'.

Personally, I think that we prefer diet drinks over this side of the pond for taste reasons as well as health.
With a pile of sugar going into each can of ordinary Coke, most 'diet' drinkers over here find the ordinary sugary drinks far too cloying.
