@Opsimath,
Also struggling on 19 & others!
22 - just googled the key words.
38 - think regular may be a key word here?
48 - I am a bit concerned about the warning as I had a mixture of answers. Hopefully choose the right one.
Any hint on 16 would be good.

@Opsimath,
For 22 I used the Reverse Dictionary section of OneLook and typed in the words of the question. Seems to be confirmed in Chambers.
I'd appreciate a hint for one of the elements of #16. I have a list of Wodehouse characters and have worked out what letters might be in the cadaver, but can get nowhere with the opera.

@Opsimath,
I haven't got the word for the cadaver, Opsimath: just worked out some of the letters that would fit, linking them with each of the Wodehouse nicknames in turn. Danny, Jonny, Harry, Sally, Billy, Ziggy etc.....? the problem is, I don't know anything about 1950s films (except Dirk Bogarde!)

@Sylvan,
Thank you, got it now. I didn't know the film at all, but I'm glad the logic that pointed towards a name like that at least was correct!

@gardengnome,
Some clues to get you moving:

44 - Beatified
48 - Marsupial

Would appreciate help with any of 15, 21, and 46 in return. And 19, but nobody seems to have it.

@glos 10,
I do worry about the setter's insistence on 'only one acceptable answer'. I used to set A level papers, and we stopped using 'odd one out' questions because someone always came up with an unexpected answer that we had to allow. I have an answer, but I suspect it's not the one he was looking for as it's fairly straightforward.

@bennattod,
There have been international contestants in the one I'm thinking of, they cite Oz and the US as examples. Otherwise... what might you suggest? A dog endlessly dragging its behind?

@Green Fade,
q38 Not making any suggestions, had my answer weeks ago and sticking to it, just informing you of the compilers latest comments on the question, no doubt alternative answers will come into the equation.
