A friend of mine lived in China for a year, as an Engrish teacher.
We were talking about cultural differences the other day, and he said that the Chinese spit often in public. Walking down the street, some gorgeous chick would just huck a looey on the sidewalk, and it's completely normal.
What gives? I've heard that women who "spit" are a bad thing before, but this is over the top. Anyone heard anything about this behavior from those racky Chinese?
In Saudi Arabia it is considered a compliment to the chef to belch and fart at the dinner table. And never try to hitch a ride in Iran. The "thumbs up" sign is an obscene gesture. But I dated a Chinese woman for 2 years and she never spat once - at least in my presence.
He did mention about everyone burping in restaurants....sounds like a great place to hang out.
