How to use genitive case or objective case?

[They caught 'him' cheating in the exam.] Why do not use 'his' ? Inversely, the sentence [He doesn't deny his breaking the agreement.] Why use 'his'? What's the point to use those cases in those situations? Would you help me with the problem?Many thanks!
