Vintage Tv show impossible to find?

I'm nearly obsessed with this educational kids show that was airing in my country around 1994/98, so it could be late '80s or early 90's.
It was an anglophone show, I'd say Australian because I remember some hot/desert settings. All I can remember is this weird young man, dressed with strange colorful suits (maybe a question marks or striped suit?) explaining to a bunch of kids (or maybe just two) how do things work. The episode I remember was about those two kids asking themselves some nature/scientific question (for example why does water evaporate) and out of nowhere this random guy appears behind his usual booth, a sort of little hut like those for puppets theaters, solving the kids' questions.
This is all I've got in my memory, I'd say that this was the average plot of every episode but it could also be just a single one.
It's not Bill Nye the science guy and not 3,2,1, contact!
I hope someone can help, it's been years I've been looking for this show all around the web! (and among my friends it seems I'm the only one with this memory!)
