The type of statistical analysis with one moderating variable

Hi,
I have one independent variable (Planning in writing), one moderator variable (Writing Self efficacy ), and one dependent variable (Writing performance).
I'm using quasi experimental design since it is impossible for me to randomize the participants. My questions:
1. Should I use ANCOVA or Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) for my data analysis?
2. Do I need to have covariate if I use MRA?
