... that don't fall in love.
Do they exist?
We were talking about this at the dog park the other day. The closest thing we could think of was Peggy and Don in "Mad Men", which, of course, is not a movie, and it's not over yet (but I don't see them falling in love).
"When Harry Met Sally" was the closest we could come with a movie but they end up falling in love.
Tsarstephen?
Anyone?
@boomerang,
What about "Pretty in Pink"?
Duckie and Andie end up with other people but Duckie was clearly in love with Andie....
Norma Rae?
The title character's relationship with the union agitator remains platonic.
However, they weren't really casual friends so much as coworkers.
Oh of course!
I just thought of 8 movies at once--Harry Potter (and Hermione).
@boomerang,
Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz in Wreck it Ralph.
Steel Magnolias
The Banger Sisters
Napoleon and Deb in Napoleon Dynamite.
Also TV (rather than a movie) but the relationship between Sherlock Holmes in and Joan Watson Elementary is an interesting example.
I have one more...
Howard and Robin in Private Parts
This is real life friendship played out in a sort of autobiographical movie.
I'm going to have to go back and rewatch (or in some cases, watch) these!
Thank you all!! I'll have some good examples to bring up when I next see these people.
We did talk about Harry and Hermione but since everyone ended up in some kind of relationship we wavered, unsure if it counted.
@boomerang,
I am still working on this...
Ridley and Dallas in "Alien" (didn't really have time for a romance).
