PAINTING GREEN WOOD????

At an arts festival, I bought an unpainted pine corner shelf. Every time I paint it white, a dark color bleeds through. Does this indicate it was not seasoned?

I have two coats of white paint on it. Do I let it dry at it's own pace? Do I remove the paint?

Hmmm.. It would be unusual for someone to knowingly build something out of green wood. Most lumber is kiln dried and even those that cut their own usualy let the wood dry naturally before attempting to use it.

I'd guess the dark color you are seeing is because the wood is dry and absorbing the paint you are applying which lets the darker grain show through. A primer/sealer coat would fix that.

In your case, since you already have 2 coats of paint on it, I'd let it dry and then apply a coat of shellac. Once that dries apply one more coat of paint and it should be fine.
