Hello all,
I have two example sentences I would like to share with you all today with the hopes of correcting any possible errors (commas/semicolons):
1. "Having left the store, Tommy, a tall, skinny man, hurriedly walked home; thus, he arrived just in time for his favorite television show."
2. "The boy liked to eat tacos, particularly on Tuesdays."
Thanks.
1. "Having left the store, Tommy hurriedly walked home, arriving just in time for his favorite television show."
2. "The boy liked to eat tacos, especially on Tuesdays."
@kaibil234,
Example 1 is correct, as far as it goes; Punkey's suggestion is better: semicolons may be used between independent clauses; using a comma in such a place is called a comma splice.
@neologist,
So the second example has a comma splice?
@kaibil234,
The second example has only one independent clause. It's OK.
@neologist,
Okay, thanks for the help.
