Okay, later I think I'll start a "best beaches in the world" thread, but for now, I'm just interested in your opinions on the best beaches in the continental U.S.
My favorite is South Beach in Miami, but I'm an east coast guy and I've never even been to the west coast, where I'm sure there are some beautiful beaches also.
So, what's your favorite beach?
It's not a beachy beach but my favourite shoreline is the whole eastern shore of Assateague Island. 20+ miles of sand and water, and not a hotel in sight. It's paradise.
(It's on the Delmarva - nearest town at the south end is Chincoteague, Virginia)
Sounds real nice. Peaceful. No hotels? Are there houses that you can rent right on the beach?
If you like plenty of space between you and the next guy, clean sand, quiet atmosphere, and natives ranging 'waving hello as they walk by' to politely quiet, try New Smyrna Beach on the East coast of central Florida. The beach is so many miles long that you can surf in one area, drive your car in another, go to a car-free zone, go to a popular ramp (area) with rental stands that sell fun food and boogie boards, go to a quiet area, or even sunbathe nude (if you walk far enough).
It's a small city (30,000 residents?). The residents have alot of pride and keep the sand trash-free. Lots of retirees with good pensions and educations settle there from 'up North' - mainly New York, Ohio, Mass, Michigan, Penn.
Shop carefully for vacation rentals, there are hundreds of options. 99% are right on the beach. The further south you go, the more beach you have to yourself. An area called Bethune Beach has many freestanding beach houses.
It's a very peaceful area, great to get away from it all.
Best to wait until this year's storm season is passed. Hurricane damage, you know.
welcome...and good choice
New Smyrna is rated highly in Fla
I love kill devil hills but my favorite is Ft Pierce. Fla..secluded and this German couple rents out bungalows right on the dunes..
course they might be inland a few miles after Jeanne.
For almost absolute privacy, no houses, no traffic, no crowds, Plum Island Beach Newbury, Ma. It's only 20 minutes from where I live.
I had a real good time down there one day (I wasn't alone)
<grinning>
What's the climate like from season to season?

So sorry, it is you. What's the climate like in Newbury, Mass?
Well it's New England, so to give you an idea, lately, it has been about seventy degrees in the day and about fifty at night.
Summertime it can get quite hot around here, ninty or more, it's New England, the weather does fluctuate quite a bit.
The water is cold, even in the summer, about sixty three, depending upon the current.

I noticed you say that to all the girls, hmmm, what a shame, we don't live that far from each other, and I've had so much ENERGY lately.
Oh to bad.
I haven't had sex in about three months now. Talk about ENERGY. I'm climbing the walls over here. Why don't you hop on a train for a visit? I'll show you the REAL big Apple.
3 months, oh my, that is a long time ;-)
