Rainsoft EC4 (Existing) vs Kenmore

Well about 7 years ago I was talked into buying an Rain soft EC4 & separate scale tank. After never really seeing a difference I ended up bypassing the system and haven't used it in several years.

Recently, I needed a new well and the water is much harder than previous. My well guy and several others have told me that the rain soft system is just plain junk in this area. (We have high iron) The well guy recommended the Kenmore water softener.

I called the Rainsoft dealer and they wanted $300 to "service" the current equipment and check it out. The Kenmore costs around $530. The rainsoft cost several thousand.

It seems to me a no-brainer to replace the rainsoft system with the Kenmore. What are your thoughts on this issue?

Thanks
