So as I walk to the train, I see lots of people waiting in spots you typically do not see them. I'm thinking it is not going to be a good commuting day. I look at the platform as a train pulls in -- it is full. I do the smart thing and take the train the opposite way and then to retrace back toward the city. I get in late, but get in.
Then I read this article.
http://www.bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2015/01/nurse_helped_pull_riders_off_smoke_filled_red_line_train
So basically a car filled with smoke -- the doors didn't open -- people tried to open the doors and they wouldn't open so a man tried to break the window to get them out.
Favorite dumb a$$ comment by the MBTA - "A failure in the train’s propulsion system resulted in a burst of smoke on the train’s exterior. There was no emergency,” Pesaturo said in a statement. “There was no danger and no one was injured by the failure in the propulsion system. The MBTA was opening the doors when some people kicked out windows. There was no reason for this to happen. It’s unclear why some acted in such a manner.”
Unclear why they acted that way? Dumb a$$ the people in the car did not realize there was no danger - and they trust the MBTA to save them. According to the witnesses they kicked in the windows when the doors wouldn't open - the doors opened after they started kicking in the windows.
