Hi, I am trying to discover the identity of the paintings on these stamps..http://www.marken-muenzen.de/pics/artikel_bilder/2012/74160_d.jpg I recognise "The Birth of Venus" by Botticelli at the top right hand side, but my limited knowledge doesn't help with the rest.....are they familiar to anyone
Thanks
@thylacine,
These are off the top of my head but I'll come back later for the remaining:
These are stamps used in Ajam? (Arabic?)
@PUNKEY,
As far as I can discover, printed for use in Ajman (UAE) but not able to establish if ever postally used (probably not due to images being socially unacceptable in region)
Some of these stamps have been in use.
I've just one missing:
@timur,
Many thanks for your kind help....I have heard of about half of the artists involved, so I shall try to discover information about the others...perhaps I am a little old-fashioned but I find it easier to see beauty and skill in these images than in the works of those creating art today....but as they say..beauty is in the eye of the beholder
@thylacine,
Well, the beauty and the skills are obvious in these works but it's even more if you know the mythological dramas behind the paintings.
Btw, the one missing is probably the tumultuous relationship between Venus and Adonis but I can't find who painted it, among plenty of famous painters that painted the same scene.
