I'm looking at a private sale car, which I think is a great deal. The problem is, the sunroof has a leak. Is this an easy fix? Does anyone know what $$ amount I'm looking at to repair this?
Also, if the car is not up to my (not so very high) standards when it comes the interior, should I ask for a discount? If I bought this car, I'd get it detailed. I'd want the amount of the detail job to knocked off the price of the car. Is that a reasonable thing to ask? THANKS!

It depends on the location of the leak and the severity. Usually a simple replacment of the sealant or mouldings will do the trick. I always ask for a discount even if the car in in pristine condition.

Sunroofs rarely leak into the car as there are drain channels built into the roof to drain water onto the road (look at the corners of the sunroof opening and you will see them.But...

If when the sunroof is closed,it's sitting all nice and level with the rest of the roof then I would put my money on a simple and inexpensive seal replacement.

If on the other hand when the sunroof is closed it's sitting down (ie not flush with the rest of the roof around it) Then the cables that work the sunroof are streached or out of adjustment. Then thats a time consuming job that will soak up labor costs.

It could be the windscreen leaking. For some reason these leak far more often than sunroofs. Most screen replacement joints can test and reseal a sunroof or a screen while you wait.

No matter how good the deal always insist on some discount
