Nothing shameful with that. In fact, I think that you should be instated as the new monarch. Think of all the people you could rid us of, under the treason laws!)

(All we have to do is get rid of them somehow. I had a dream once that Stephen Fry and I made up this reality TV show that got rid of royals all over the place, mostly minor ones; they would be forced to compete in various Tasks for publicity, the winner could spend one more week in splendour, whilst the loser had to live in a grotty flat over Spar, or whatever his/her money could buy, knowing that they'd have no more state aid. Knowing the English royals' arrogance, all of them would put their names down for it if they thought that it would please the proletariat.)

(Join the club. I'm not a fan of the (Dutch) monarchy either. However, I stand alone on that in my family. My parents think they're just great, and I've still not been able to change their opinion on this)

(They're far more cost-effective than the British monarchy; but, nonetheless, that really Doesn't Excuse the Fact that They are completely Pointless Money-Wasting freaks! If they were normal people grabbing this much money, people would want them in jail...

Incidentally: if 'The Rick and Drom Treason Hour' has confused anyone, you can carry on with the letter C. We won't mind, yet.

( Mr. Green Not yet, no. I do believe the Dutch monarchy is very rich, and that their 'salary' (I've still not found out what work they actually do) is much above the normal working Dutchman. There used to be a time in which the monarchy actually ruled the country; that's all over now. So what's the use of a monarchy?)

(To look regal, and wear pointy hats. Couldn't we just employ fools to play those parts?)

(I'll try to find the salary, though I've been trying in vain)

(I went to school with a girl who pretended to be part of the Dutch monarchy. Yes, new depths of sadness.)

(I found that in 1997, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands got 7 million guilders (approximately 3.2 million euros), of which approximately 1.3 million guilders (600,000 euros) are 'salary')

Quote:
Uit de rijksbegroting blijkt dat ze in 1997 meer dan zeven miljoen gulden verdiende (haar inkomen groeit mee met de loon- en prijsstijgingen). Haar man ontving 1,4 miljoen gulden.

Ridiculous. The English royals get about a million a piece (for the Queen and the higher echelons,) but don't quote me on it. They're just a waste, especially when one considers what that money Could be spent on...

Top English excuses for having the monarchy:

. it's better than having a president

. it's part of our heritage (as is the Plague, public beheadings, and pyromaniacs in Pudding Lane; do you want to bring those back?)
