I've never been to Helsinki before, but I have always wanted to go there. I will be sitting around for quite a bit of the day too, on this train; so I'll be partly here, partly reading 'Teach yourself Finnish.'

(Where are you travelling? Good idea, to go after High season.)

(I know about the miserable weather; before I left [July the 3rd], I was remarking whether England would ever get one day of sunshine. English rain seems to be more miserable than Parisian rain or Danish rain, for some reason. Maybe it is the fact that people complain about both the rain and the heat. I like Scandinavia, but I don't like too much heat; I am the sort of person who goes to Greece in the middle of November.

Have you been to Greece before? I hope that it's nice for you. I do indeed have an Internet connection, [and it is being paid for by the people for whom I am translating poetry, haha,] and I'm on the train. We probably will not get to Helsinki until the evening, because of the fact that I like scenic 'detours.')

England must be the most anti-social country in the planet. Talking with strangers-- well, saying more than just 'have you the time?'-- is considered strange and unacceptable here, whereas abroad, it is natural.

Also, have you noticed that at least half of businesses in England are based around making people believe that they are not in England? That says something.

Where do you think is your favourite part of Greece?I would love to be able to speak Greek, but, alas, it is among the languages that I will never be able to learn, with Chinese, Russian and Thai.

Have you your itinerary planned out, yet; or are you taking things as they come?

(I'll write like this in future, when it is off-topic, or else it gets a little confusing.)
