I have a '00 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3 with 105,000 miles on it. It doesn't want to start when the engine is warm, but has been sitting for a few minutes.
When I turn the key the engine will turn over but will not fire. After it does that I try to restart it and it will eventually fire up, but it will not idle.
It will idle after I play with the gas and starts running fine. It runs fine with no hint of problem.
Any ideas?
wait , let me elaborate..
Inside your starter are "brushes" . they create a small electrical charge that gets your engine started...blah blah blah blah.... if they are worn down alot of times your engine will have ahard time maintaining a charge and will not show any other signs of problems.....ie: stammering , ticking etc. And randomly will perform just fine. If you can take it apart yourself you can look inside and if it is VERY dusty with what looks like pencil lead...I would think that would be a good CHEAP place to start a repair.
there is a puter chip that regulates "idle" gas flow to the engine that probably needs replaced

????????????? If it were starter brushes the starter wouldn't be turning the engine over which he says is working fine.
Sounds like something (probably ignition) is heat-sensitive. I'd start there.
Don't mess about. Go to the nearest diagnostic place or the dealer, they can plug it in to the 'puter and read out the error codes stored in the cars black box.My local dealer only charges 15mins labor to do this.
