I'm puzzled by the references to a Western for #50: I have what appears to be a completely different answer. re 40: started with the first number which is a double letter and the rest fell into place fairly quickly.

Sorry, forgot to say re #40; the first word is in Bradford - I'd never heard of it but couldn't see what other double letters it could begin with.

Am I right in thinking that the nuber in question is taken to the fourth power

you need to find a number and cube it and then take the same number to the fourth power - you will then have two numbers which together (NOT added together) will contain the numbers 0-9
