Watched the Willie Nelson special a couple of nights ago. Sadly, the only ones that I recognized were Willie and Carol King:
Tonight you're mine completely
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow?
Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure?
Can I believe the magic of your sigh?
Will you still love me tomorrow?
Tonight with words unspoken
You'll say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun?
I'd like to know that your love
Is love I can be sure of
So tell me now and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow?
I need to know
Will you still love me tomorrow?
Anyone else watch it? Let me know about the rest of the angels and outlaws.
Sorry, I didn't see it Letty...but I do love that song.
ah, colorbook. Carol and Willie....Remembering Tapestry and that red-headed cowboy.
And another from Carol:
So far Away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know that you're just time away
Long ago I reached for you, and there you stood
Holding you again could only do me good
How I wish I could, but you're so far away
One more song about moving along the highway
Can't say much of anything that's new
If I could only work this life out my way
I'd rather spend it being close to you
But you're so far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know you're so far away
Yeah, you're so far away
Traveling around sure gets me down and lonely
Nothing else to do but close my mind
I sure hope the road don't come to own me
There are so many dreams I have yet to find
But you're so far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
And it doesn't help to know you're so far away
You're so far away
Yeah, you're so far away
You're so far away
Ya know, colorbook, Willie tried doing the old songs once. Simply didn't cut it. He stepped too far out of character.
I recently saw Willie at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Much as I like and admire him, live performances are not his thing. I will continue to listen to his recordings, but don't want to see him again.
I admire Willie Nelson as a songwriter, but not as a singer.
edgar and colorbook, You both feel the same way about Willie as I do about Hank Williams. What he wrote overshadowed his singing. Either of you remember "Cold, Cold Heart"?
COLD COLD HEART Lyrics
Artist(Band):Hank Williams
I tried so hard my dear to show that you're my every dream.
Yet you're afraid each thing I do is just some evil scheme
A memory from your lonesome past keeps us so far apart
Why can't I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold cold heart
Another love before my time made your heart sad and blue
And so my heart is paying now for things I didn't do
In anger unkind words are spoke that make the teardrops start
Why can't I free your doubtful mind, and melt your cold cold heart
You'll never know how much it hurts to see you sit and cry
You know you need and want my love yet you're afraid to try
Why do you run and hide from life,to try it just ain't smart
Why can't I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold cold heart
There was a time when I believed that you belonged to me
But now I know your heart is shackled to a memory
The more I learn to care for you,the more we drift apart
Why can't I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold cold heart
Fond memories of that song, my friends.
I used to listen to Hank on The Grand Ole Opry before he died. I have all his recordings and I listen to many of them several times a year.
