Electrical Sub Panel

I am adding a 100A sub-panel next to my Main Panelboard...since the panel are located within 18" of each other, can I use a Main Lug panel and just use the 100A feed breaker as my disconnect?? I have some electrical training and have read the NEC code but wanted some practical advice from those who have done this already....thanks

@JeeperJ20,
If you install your 100amp panel and are feeding it with a 100amp breaker and conductors, a MLO panel would be fine there or across the other side of the house. The overcurrent protection for a panelboad cannot have a rating greater than that of the panelboard and shall be located in the panelboard or at any point of the supply side of the panelboard.
