Back on October 1 a friend of mine sent an e-mail from his gmail address to me at my gmail address. I did not receive it.

When he did not receive a reply from me, he forwarded the original e-mail apparently from his Sent mail to the same e-mail address that he sent the first e-mail to. I received that email consisting of the new e-mail (his reminder to me) and appended his original e-mail to me.

I looked closely at my e-mail address in each e-mail and it is correct and identical.

How could I not receive his first e-mail?

@gollum,
Quite possibly that Google's server erroneously tagged it as a potential spam/phishing email and thusly filtered it out of your inbox. The theoretical error would be called a false positive.

Check your "junk mail" email box. It could be there.
