A professor assumed there was a correlation between the amount of hours people were expose to sunlight and their blood vitamin D level. The null hypothesis was that the population correlation was__
a) Positive one b) Negative one c) Zero d) Postive one half
My initial thoughts for this question was that the answer was Choice B. Since there was a correlation hours of sunlight exposure and blood Vitamin D level, I felt like the null hypothesis was the opposite of this. That is, there would be a negative correlation. Is my reasoning wrong? Please let me know if my answer is right or wrong. Thanks in advance.
@marchmadness2,
The answer is c (no correlation). The null hypothesis is is always about postulated relationships being chance events.
@marchmadness2,
NB The
rejection of the null hypothesis or otherwise will depend on
the value of the correlation coefficient, but "the value" is not "a hypothesis"
