Monuments are plenty in Washington, D.C. I a haven't been since I was a kid, but I'd love to see (among other things) the Viet Nam memorial and the Holocaust Museum.

Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester is an interesting place. It's got big steam mill engines and lots of other stuff, and is built beside the world's first steam railway passenger station, in Liverpool Road.

Road to Hell, rather sombre song from Chris Rea. This ain't no technological breakdown, oh no, this is the road to hell.

Road rage seems to be a proper disease in medical textbooks now. Seems a bit excessive to so elevate it.

Sentences Dyslexia to outer darkness for not playing by the rules. Honestly, you'd think a man his age could manage to do it right.

Right you are, m'dear. Although I for one would not presume to comment on a gentleman's age. In dys's case, however, it's 35. He's had a hard life.

Life is tough enough without snide comments.

Comments whether snide or not are they in the 'eye of the beholder' or in the intent of the one speaking? I think there is much trouble in cyber-space in not being able to read a person's inflection, intent or body language, let alone how much what they say and how they say it has to do from where they hail.

Hail Dev voice of harmony! Harmony is important in our lives generally, although it can be achieved by balancing two extremes.

Extremes you can find on a2k - just go to the political forum (ugh!) or even on our happy little trivia & word games thread. Thanks for the hail Clary. I like your statement about harmony - right on!

On second thoughts harmony is often seen as being a trifle conservative. Some people see discord, even violent discord,as the route to progress.

Progress, A Pilgrim's, perhaps John Bunyan' s most famous work is a kind of allegory I think, a salutory tale, but a very difficult book for the non-specialist to read these days. I recall too, that in R H Dana's "Two Years Before The Mast" he wrote of sailing in the brig Pilgrim.

Progress is not too much in evidence. Perhaps it is necessary to take a step back in order to move forward.

Forward I must go in five minutes to the local tooth-puller, a stunning petite blonde with a blue sports car, who is going to inspect the gnashers. It costs a lot now we have no National Health dentists in Totnes, so we are all private.

Punishment is meted out to those who cannot count the numbers of sentences they write, although there is a slight remission for wit. Does hiama qualify?

Qualify I did for the 5th round of the Fastest Fricassee Factotum north of the Watford Gap.I got well done though by a bloke who had bushy eyebrows and could waggle them up and down and from side to side at will.
