Upbringing is a very difficult art and many, many books have been written on the subject. It is best to avoid reading any of them as they only apply to the fantasies of the writers.

Entertainment is the ne plus ultra of those who have resigned themselves to the uselessness of the self preservation instinct and are sated by sex and drugs. Everyone else must simply suffer.

Suffer most patients do because they lie to their doctor about how much they smoke and whether they're taking their medicine. They understate how much they drink and overstate how much they exercise.

Exercise is a difficult thing to quantify unless one uses the gym machinery. I contend most city dwellers exercise more than country bumpkins because they have to negotiate public transport and in London this mean walking for miles underground and climbing many stairs.

Stairs Castle is a historic pile north of the border probably managed by the National Trust for Scotland. I've never been there, so google it for yourself you lazy git.

"Git along there, little dogies". I was humming this song as I did my own research and it appears my memory is faulty regarding Lady Stairs House

House to house searches for criminal youths in Totnes have occasionally included my stately pile. Especially the day my youngest son and his friend shinned up the scaffolding to the church roof just because it was there.

History is the study of past human events and activities. There are differing views when history actually begins.

"Begins with S H and ends with I T and is found in the bottom of a bird cage - SHELLGRIT!" I can remember my brother, as a kid, telling this joke and he didn't have a clue he was giving away the punchline.

Punchline generally derives its humor from being unexpected. It is the final part of a joke.

End of the world prophecies are plentiful. The latest one says global warming is slowly but relentlessly killing off the planet.

Again and again we're seeing headlines about Britney Spears in recent weeks. What on earth is going on with this woman?

Hour is a unit of time. In modern usage, an hour is a unit of time 60 minutes, or 3,600 seconds in length.

Length is a much sought after attribute. Especially when girth accompanies it.
