Complain all you want. Anybody is entitled to do a bit of that if they so wish.

Affairs have been the only thing holding me back. Despite overwhelming scientific evidence I have, to my great shame, succumbed to their devastating nature and, as a consequence, failed to fulfill the potential my Mum always maintained I was capable of.

Capable of amazingly brave, altruistic and intelligent deeds, man still disappoints the notional gods by being blindingly stupid. A religious believer might think that in the absence of gods man would never be brave, altruistic or intelligent, but I disagree.

Disagree with me? Certainly they do; I will never eat green plums again.

Again, thoughts turn to travel as the nights draw in and the evenings are too chilly to sit without heating. How lucky for me that my son is going to live in Dubai where it rains four days a year!

Year old chicken is a bit tough without considerable broiling. The best chicken is produced in just six weeks from first to baste.

Baste I do when having a BBQ. I moisten the meat or fish with specially flavoured juices, yummy.

"Yummy, yummy, yummy, I've got a hole in my tummy" is a line from a song. I've heard seaside girls sing it in unison as they swaggered along the prom late at night swinging their backsides.

Backsides are the parts women love to look at when observing men. It is a typical men's mistake to think they look at protruding parts!

Parts for resting actors are hard to come by. And the television drama makers all seem to favour casting well-known faces, so the same people keep cropping up.

'Up and at 'em!' is a very common call for people to face the day. Sometimes I would rather stay curled up in bed and wait for 'em' to pass by.

Mac OS stands for Macintosh Operating System. It is the trademark name for an operating system developed by Apple for their Macintosh computer.

Macintosh computers are the best. I have never had a virus, nor even a phishing trip or a Trojan Horse.

Horse Feathers, one of the hilarious series of films made by the Marx Brothers. Some people like Groucho for his wit, or Harpo for his winning ways; I like the serious one, Karl.

Karl Kennedy in Neighbours was named by his left-wing father after Karl Marx. Whereas my eldest son is named after Alexis de Tocqueville.

Karl Marx spent some time in Manchester with his friend Friedrich Engels. I would like to go and see his grave in Highgate Cemetery - if only I could bring myself to visit London.
