Pointing the finger at anyone in particular? Some of us are just playing at being argumentative rather than seriously contentious.
Contentious responses are the point I am trying to make. What is meant as a tongue-in-cheek sally often seems argumentative in writing and is taken seriously.
Seriously rich, that's what I would like to be. Loaded, rolling in it. Stinking, filthy rich totally and completely beyond the dreams of avarice.
Avarice - it's one of the sins, isn't it? Another one I don't like is Envy.
"Envy according to the aspect of its object is contrary to charity, whence the soul derives its spiritual life... Charity rejoices in our neighbor's good, while envy grieves over it." so said thomas aquinas, medieval theologian.
theologian eh, the pays not great but the retirement package is heavenly
HEAVENLY CREATURES - a film about a real life teen age murder
Murder is the collective noun for a group of crows.
Crows, rooks, magpies, jays- in my bird book they're grouped together as a birdy family. Sounds cosy, but magpies do indulge in a spot of murder now and then.
Then - when I was in Hong Kong - one of our budgies escaped and was found murdered by a magpie. At least, that's what we suspected at the time.
Time heals, and so does Savlon. But Savlon is quicker, albeit smeary.
Smeary lipstick looks good on absolutely no one, darling, especially on a man's collar.
Collars with little buttons on the points are really silly. I've always thought a white IRONED shirt was so sexy on a guy.
Guy Fawkes was burnt at the stake for plotting to blow up the English parliament. His notoriety is responsible for what we call bonfire night.
Nights in white satin, never reaching the end- what in tarnation was all that about? At some stage presumably they would at least have to go to the laundromat.
Laundromats are kind of things I'd never seen too close. Neither did I "tarnation", does it mean eternal damnation?
Damnationis its meaning, but I can't think where it came from. My handy dictionary says it's just a euphemism.
Don't you just love all the euphemisms for death or dying: passed on, kicked the bucked, croaked, left the planet...and thousands more
More still, like jewish words for "fool" and anglo-saxon words for "drunk". Anyway- where were we?
