@ehBeth,
I've never seen that recipe before, ebeth. AND I have a massive sage plant growing just outside the back door!

Wonderful!

All I need now is to plant a pasta tree.

@Lordyaswas,
I hope your spaghetti tree harvest is as successful as this one

My husband and love capers...but--when at the grocery store, we can't ever seem to remember if they are fresh. I kid him about buying them to sell them on the internet. About every 3-6 months I try to get rid of old jars.

Remember that old song "If you've got the parsley and sage, Rosemary,
I've got the thyme"?

@Germlat,
I wanted to try and grow them once upon a time. No luck at the time, even in finding out how - this was pre internet. I should look the info up now.

I was given a very large jar of whole star anise pods about 15 years ago. I use maybe a half dozen of them per year. By 2020, I should be using the last of them.

I haven't had star anise around in years. I vaguely remember liking them.

I just looked up about growning capers. I won't be doing that but found that out by clicking on a dangerous website for me, http://www.growitalian.com/how-to-grow-capers/.

Ooh, grow Italian!

Do they sell Gina Lollobrigida seeds?

I have many spices that are about 45 years old. They're not on a wrack. They're in a cabinet. That's where I keep the spices and herbs that don't fit on the wrack.

I've got room. Why should I throw them out. The minute they're gone, I'll need one. We all know that.

@ehBeth,

mmmmmm...butternut squash! Smile

Oldest spice jar is something covered in grime and unknown dusts, I think it's nutmeg but I may be wrong as half the label came off a while ago. Holding onto it so I can get it appraised someday on Antiques Roadshow.
