Hi Sarah,
First, I don't have a direct answer for you, because I have not done so myself. But it may help to get around or get to know so photographers that have done so already.

Are you a part of an online art community? I am a member at DeviantART.com, I believe it is the largest fastest growning community in the world, pretty amazing--there is no place else like it. It doesn't cost anything to join. Just a thought.

But if you want to do it more independantly, I am sure there are some professional photographers who have done interviews where this question might be addressed. I'll search around a bit, because I am kinda curious about it Smile Let you know if I find anything!

HottMoshChik, welcome to A2k!

You could try interning at a museum or gallery - perhaps a magzine. They always need extra help and they get good pictures for free and you get good experience. And best of all you get to meet and mingle with other artists.

HELP!
I hope you are inspiring, but I suspect you mean "aspiring" . . . As for taking black and white pix, is there some reason you prefer them to color? Colors can upstage the subject, so your subjects should be pretty powerful in themselves. If you use only b&w your subjects can be more subtle, since they aren't competing with the colors.

You might try asking at local art schools; some colleges make the kind of information you want available to the public.

Keep looking!
