I wanted to start an honest and non-demeaning discussion regarding gender privilege and whether or not some of the forum member believes it exist. I encourage people to watch the following video and then I'll come back to this thread:
The reason why I wanted to discuss this is because in some instances where there are issues with custody battles, prison sentences etc there appears to be a dynamic where there is an imbalance based on gender. Like the above video, although people want to get sexual assault awareness out, depending on how that message comes across, to criticize that message as was done in the above video, one maybe be labeled as a "rapist sympathizer."
To answer my own thread question "Does gender privilege exist?"
Yes it does!
I believe the United States of America society was designed based upon white patriarchy, and I have no problem seeing it throughout society. However, I think we need to have a healthy understanding that although patriarchy exist and that misogyny exist, misandry also exists. There are people who knowingly take advantage of a system design for REAL VICTIMS to "get back at someone." I honestly believe we need to have a healthy discussion in talking about the issues of gender privilege because both men and women are both victims, and propagators of it.
