I love to make porcelain dolls but the only access I had to a kiln was when I lived at home and attended doll making classes there. As I now live 2 1/2 hours away from home, using this class' kiln is out of the question. How else do people fire their greenware and such (short of buying a kiln for themselves, that too is out of the question. Waaaay too expensive.)?
is it possible to Raku fire them? A raku kiln can be made easily. We had a workshop here at the farm about 10 years ago and we built one out of fire brick and a big iron plate for a lid. everything gets oxidized to darker (many times vibrant) colors but you paint the faces no?
Many towns have ceramic classes at community centers or thhere are actual ceramic shops where you can make and fire works. I know of a few in 30 mi radius of me , so, unless you really live away from a medium sized town, look in the fonebook under ceramics .
