What is the name of the famous New Year song and what are the words. Can you tell me anything about this song?
"Auld Lang Syne" is the title.
Here's a link to the author and more info.
auld lang syne
The basis of this is the Scots tradition of "Hogmanay", supposedly a pagan ritual to celebrate the turning of the season. It then re-emerged as a sort of reaction to the High-Church Christmas foisted on the Scots by the English ("Hoots mon, I kin nae take this shite. And a canne gie you any more fra the dilithium crystals either, Cappen).
These days it's an excuse for a giant piss-up. Presumably anyone left standing sings the song and orders another round.
