Do you remember Cheyenne, the TV western series

I'm not sure if this was strictly an American broadcast, but as a kid I remember watching the handsome (and tall, 6'6") Clint Walker portray the rugged hero in old style western garb. Slow talking, man of few words, and totally fearless of evil doers.

Clint Walker turned 87 today, Happy Birthday Cheyenne Bodie, thanks for the childhood memories.

@glitterbag,
Only slightly, and I did like westerns back then.

Everybody's getting so old, it's revoltin', but arguably better than the alternative.

I have a DVD set of Cheyenne's first season. Good show. He sang on the show a couple of times

@edgarblythe,
Your clips reminded me of his role in the dirty dozen. I always watch it when it shows up on TV.

Clint still looks very handsome in 2013, wow. Edgar, in one of the old Westerns, the lead sang "Green grows the Violet", do you remember that one. I'm thinking Fess Parker, just not sure.

@glitterbag,
I don't know who sang that one, but Fess sang in several movies. I remember him best for Ballad of Davy Crockett, Farewell to the Mountain and Wringle Wrangle.

@edgarblythe,
I remember the lyrics for unknown reasons, my recollection is as follows:

Green grow the violets all sparkling with dew,
Green grow the violets and green is their hue,
Each violet of green turns to one that is blue,
Love like the violets can change color too.

It was kind of sweet, and I was very young. Maybe it was one of the early Disney spin offs. I'm pretty sure it was Fox Swamp, not sure if that was the title but I remember watching it while my dad cursed at the antenna. I seem to remember barges on man made canals...again might be mixing up rustic adventures.

Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox, tail on his hat,
Nobody knows where the Swamp Fox's at

Well that's all I can recall right know.

@glitterbag,
I remember Green Grow the Lilacs, but not by Fess. I know, of country artists, John Ritter's Daddy Tex did that.

Gordon MacRae also sang this in Oklahoma

@Intrepid,
Maybe that's what glitter is recalling.

@glitterbag,
The show ran from 1955 to 1963, a good run. He was a big lad alright, a walking eclipse.

Here's a full episode from youtube called The Angry Sky.

@eurocelticyankee,
Totally unrelated, but we were at a restaurant Fri. evening on the Eastern Shore, they offered wine from Fess Parker's winery. I had no idea that cowboys liked wine!!!!

@glitterbag,
I had a giant crush on Fess Parker when I was twelve or thirteen. Sometime later I learned our politics are radically different. Well, I was over the crush by then anyway.
