Then there's always the mezzo-soprano when you least expect her . . . Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were number one on the Billboard charts for over a month in 1982 with this song . . .

(I have no shame--i love these two singers . . .)

In the same era, the Swedish "super group" ABBA had a hit with this song, sung by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

In 1995, in Little Rock, Amy Lee and Ben Moody formed the group Evanescence. Here, they perform their hit "Bring Me to Life," live, in Vegas . . .

I like to think of Aretha cruising down that freeway of love, in a pink Cadillac . . .

Born the same year as Aretha is Carole King. She has written or co-written an incredible 118 songs to chart in the Billboard Hot 100. She released her first album in 1970, in cooperation with James Taylor--but it was her 1971 Tapestry album that really launched her career as a singer . . .

@edgarblythe,
I'm using an IPad, so I don't think I can post clips. I did see Janis Joplin in 68 or 69 at the Civic Center in Baltimore. She had a bottle of Southern Comfort on Stage and the whole night was surreal.

My favorite right this minute is "Ball & Chain", but also love Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Ertha Kitt and all the women mentioned above.
Saw Linda Ronstadt at a big stadium in D.C. She was on stage wearing in-line skates. She can sing anything beautifully. I loved her version of "Blue Bayou"
