Where did this folk art piece come from?

I purchased this picture this weekend and I'm trying to find out whatever I can about it- which so far is next to nothing. It's made of pieces of very thin animal skins glued to a thick card board. It's about 12 inches by 14 inches. Any ideas about where this comes from and/or how old it is and/or worth? Thanks. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x700q90/845/hpnn.jpg

@don zee,
That's pretty interesting!

Is it pieced together like a collage or is it painted or some combination of the two?

@boomerang,
It's a bit of both, mostly pieced together- if it was wood I would call it marquetry. The smaller details like the fingers and toes are inked in.

@don zee,
Eastern Europe had traditions of folk art cards and pictures using parchment like this appears to be.But the subject matter appears to be more from India rather than Eastern Europe.
Just a guess.

@farmerman,
A friend tells me it's goat skin but still no specifics on location. Could it be Klingon?
