An article from the Arts Section of my local paper. Would you spend an hour looking at Beckham sleeping?
Would you call this Art?
What's do you think?
Apparently lots of people think it's great.

"An hour of Becks sleeping"

This is conceptual art, and the 'art' is in the 'concept', not in the reality of such a film.

However, to create this work, it is indeed necessary for the actual film to be fashioned, and viewed (at least once).

Warhol has already done this, with an admittedly less famous 'sleeper'; it was called eight and a half, in a pun on the Frederico Felini 'classic' film.

One can imagine the 'excitement' created by the slightest movement, within the context of something so banal.

How better to define 'complete boredom'!

Quote from the article:

The artist is hardly less in demand than her latest subject. Taylor-Wood is the undisputed social star of the Young British Artists movement

Yes, I remember Warhol's piece, so I guess it's hardly a new concept. I was wondering if the subject made it more interesting for people?

Perhaps it is a sad comment on the 'attention span' of the early 21st. century, that this film is only an hour and 7 min. vs Warhol's eight and a half hours!

Are you saying that a horny British housewife wouldn't spend an hour fantasizing about sleeping next to Beckham? It's quite possibly more intimacy then they get from hubby. Laughing

Perhaps we should initiate a personal intimacy service;
airfare included of course!

I am rather surprised and impressed that Becks
put himself in this vulnerable position. I wonder
if he had final veto on the videotape and whether
he got any $$$$$$$$.

Maybe it was something to do with appearing in a famous gallery with all those other important people? The artist seems to think that that convinced him.

At least if he's asleep, we don't have to listen to him trying to string a sentence together

But he sure needs some respectability at this stage, shepaints! It seems he is not Mr Clean & Nice, as he's been sold to his adoring fans. <sigh>
