I'm looking to buy a 2000 Volksvagen TDI. Does anyone have any thoughts on that car? Would you suggest I get one? Why?
I think you're on the track to a fine used car.
We have a 1996 VW Passat TDI with 245,000 miles on it. The motor has had no major repair. It has had no clutch replacement either. It's a stick shift.
It starts quite instantly even in the coldest weather.
Let mileage be your last worry. Check for rust and operational stuff. You should get at least 45 mpg.
By the way, we have owned several diesels. A '92 Rabbit we sold with 90,000. An '86 Jetta with 280,000 miles.
You may have difficulty finding one. Good luck.
I agree. VWs TDI has proven to be great, but consumer reports has a lot else to say about the rest of the car. Some of their cars have repeatedly made the 10 worst list. Jetta, Beetle, Passat. Shine-ola if you ask me.
