My computer, which runs XP home, is not able to detect the CD player.
I wanted to copy some pics to CD, but could not open the CD-W player gate. When I checked on the hardware, the cd player drive is not listed.
Any suggestions on what has happened?
I don't use it very often, but now I have a new printer, which I'm unable to install, because I can't use the CD to access the software.
Help!
Sounds like the CD drive itself has gone bad. It might just be unplugged. Either case you'll need to open up the machine to check/replace.
This happened to me a while ago, margo. It wasn't my cd drive. It was a confilict wiht another program. I can't remember how I fixed it, though. Dammit! I'm going to go back over my posts to see if I can find the answer.
I found it! JerryR helped me fix the problem.

Do you have liquid player?
No - don't have "liquid player".
The device manager doesn't even acknowledge it's existence. No error messages - it's just not there. It's an internal CD-W device.
We started discussing this over lunch the other day,
'til I was called away to attend a 3-year-old's birthday party.
Hardware is not my forté but it sounds like it's either unplugged or broken altogether.
I should probably point out that my old machine had stopped recognising both my CD Rom and CD writer. When I connected them to the new machine they were fine. I think there may have been a controller problem on the old one (among a myriad of other issues)
