I still use VI whenever I edit Unix scripts. My fingers memorized the control codes years ago and I can move through it easily. But I still wouldn't use it to write a resume.

Otherwise I use LibreOffice or OpenOffice. Both OpenSource and free.

Unfortunately (or not) they both emulate the basic user input methodology of MSOffice, so there is familiarity without creativity.
