That's just proof that they should have closed the site looooooooooong ago. If you can't update the welcome page on a regular basis then perhaps the people running the site aren't really dedicated in keeping the site viable.

Thanks Walter. When did Abuzz go down completely?

@Frank Apisa,
2002, I think.

I've just searched a bit: www.abuzz.com is still 'active' and owned by the NYT

That ownership page has not been updated since 2012.

That link would not load for me either.

In any case, we know it is gone.

Terrible waste of a great site.

I feel terrible that Seattlebuzz is going the same way...although I will say that I have not thought of Seattlebuzz for years.

Seattlebuzz is fully functional, but only a very few members are posting. So, it is possibly in the last throws - ?

@Frank Apisa,
I thought it was in 2004 — if you look at the Abuzz Forum it seems to have happened in the late summer.

@hightor,
Abuzz stopped then, but Seattlebuzz was a separate site.

Seattlebuzz had a pretty good start, but did not start off with enough members and I didn't care for the way it was managed. I don't recall the founder's name, but he appeared to be a very nice fellow.

@ossobucotemp,
Right. And then "Cobalt" started another forum called "Blue Buzz" and MagginKat started one called "Buzzard's Roost" or something.

I think what made the old Abuzz special was that it was NEW! It was the first experience I had with a well-designed message board/forum. And it had loads of subscribers
