I am 27 years old. I started suffering from pms after the birth of my last child. So after some research I began using a natural progesterone cream in hopes it would help. And initially it did. I felt great using 20mg of it every day for 3 months. But then something happened. I crashed. I started having severe panic attacks daily. Those lasted 2 months. This was a year ago and I am still left with unbearable depression and anxiety. Without Ativan at night I still wake up with panic attacks. What could have happened? What could be wrong? And will my body fix itself with nutrition, exercise and vitamins or could I have possibly done severe damage that will never "un-do"? I was on birth control once before the cream and it gave me panic attacks as well. The third week was the worst. I think it was OrthoTriLo. Thanks.
Make an appointment with a good GYN and (don't panic) a psychiatrist who specializes in hormone imbalances. Your condition can be helped, please seek professional help. Your not crazy, but many women experience emotional swings when hormones are introduced. HRT can be extremely helpful for some women but not for everybody. I could never use birth control pills, because I realized my legs would ache, my feet would occasionally get so sore I could only walk short distances. Plus the crazed mood swings were driving me crazy. I was looking at hardwood floor samples and when the salesman asked which one I liked, I burst into tears. I was 23 years. I had to go to a woman's clinic to get the information I needed.
However, that was quite a while ago, medicine has improved regarding women's health issues, and it should be easier to find a good female GYN. I'm not opposed to male GYNs, they provided my health care for years. But my regular Doc retired last year, and a woman took over the practice. I loved my old doc, but my new doc seems to have a better feel for all the other things that swirl around women's reproductive health. My retired Doc was very good about listening and understanding.
