How do I calculate standard deviation of a sample n=36 where some of the times taken are infinite? I recorded the time it takes for a mosquito to fly through a hole and some never fly through so the time taken down was infinite. I waited a total of 15 minutes max for each trial; I can't put down 15 minutes instead of infinite, that would not be accurate.

@sarar,
If you are sampling the times it takes mosquitoes to fly through a hole and they don't fly into and out of the hole then that is a very disappointing non-event which does not form part of your sample.

I like that you've chosen 36 samples to reduce standard error, so either go and get some more samples involving mosquitoes that do fly through your aperture or drop the mosquitoes that don't fly.

Or perhaps you need to rephrase your null hypothesis.

Where is the hole?
