A movie about what happened when 40,000 cases of beer fell into the Tweed River at Murwillumbah has been a finalist in the Tropfest Short Film Festival...
Just before Easter, in April 2001, a semi-trailer carrying 40,000 cartons of beer ran off the Pacific Highway into the Tweed River.
Over the next few days, hordes of thirsty locals and tourists dived into the river to collect consumed pretty quickly.
Due to the fact that it was Easter weekend and the roads were full the RTA would demanded that they clear the scene on Friday afternoon leaving the truck and it's load in the river. When the salvage crew returned on Monday morning-the load was gone.
I hate beer - could have stayed in the bottom of the river for me....
heeeeheeeee
dlowan
Even Cascade, or Coopers?
YES!
Even those.
Bah humbug.....
Deb, I've seen the short film they made about this. It's hilarious not only in the stories that came out of the weekend but also that a relatively small community could strip that load so quickly (and consume the evidence).
well i could have used this. would have kept me happy for at least a week!
take one down, pass it around - 39,999 cases of beer ...
40,000 cases of scotch, hmmmm, deb would have peace for at least a month. no screeching owls for her
Yeah Wilso, Scotch would be a problem, for me too!
