What exactly is fear? Can you tell what someone fears by what they're interested in? Maybe because they notice it more? Just wondering.

@atchoo522,
Fear is the foreknowledge of something you consider unpleasant made manifest in a self determind mental boundary. Our bodies response to fear is to release hormones that impact our biology on sliding scale intrinsic with our level of fear.

Everything we are interested in influences our perception, for instance, if we read 100 books on Sasquatch attacks and sightings, our fear of Sasquatch attacks are likely to increase, whether credible or not. Same with ghost stories and things that could happen or indeed be hiding in the dark

Same or similar body reactions might superficially imply no distinctions when it comes to fear. But as far as mice go, different locations in the ventromedial hypothalamus are involved for each type. The equivalent of a brain defense circuit handles fear of predators; fear of members of the same species relies on a group of neurons which usually deals with reproduction; fear of pain operates via yet another area. This provokes researchers to consider treating specific human phobias by targeting only the distinct regions for each, rather than attacking fear en masse or as a general emotion.
