Shocked Can't believe it. I found a song that my sister told me my daddy sang.I went down to the stillhouse, I didn't go to stay,
I fell in love with a whiskey keg, you bet I stayed all day.

Chorus: I'm goin' down, way way downtown,
I'm goin' down to Lynchburg Town to lay my tobaccer down.

I went up on the mountain just to give my horn a blow,
I thought I heard my pretty girl say "Yonder comes my beau".

Chorus: I'm goin' down, way way downtown,
I'm goin' down to Lynchburg Town to lay my tobaccer down.

Well once'd I had an old hound dog, I wish he'd bring him back,
He chased the big hogs round the fence and the little ones through the crack.

Chorus: I'm goin' down, way way downtown,
I'm goin' down to Lynchburg Town to lay my tobaccer down.

I bought myself a banjer, I strung it up with twine,
The only tune that thing would play was "Trouble On My Mind".

Chorus: I'm goin' down, way way downtown,
I'm goin' down to Lynchburg Town to lay my tobaccer down.

Hey, Wild Bill. Get with the program. Smile

and Panz, Rural Retreat's Blue Grass Festival.WOW!

Now, I gotta stop this stuff and get to bed.

Goodnight from Florida.

I feel SO much better--there are others out there--shamed by their occasional hidden desires for schmaltz or inanities. I am not alone....

I love the song by Ronan Keating in the movie Notting Hill.... "You say it best, when you say nothing at all"

Bloody cheesy song - and I dont admit to anyone that I like it...

This and a couple of songs by Boyzone, which I am too ashamed to admit, even on the ashamed thread.....

I love Kate Bush. I've had to hang my head in shame several times in my life for listening to her tunes. Meatloaf I dunno though, the operatic pop star? And yet really, these two are fairly similar, ones just more squeakier.

I'm not ashamed of listening to meatloaf because I never have...voluntarily.

Loved Bush's "running up that hill" I thought it was rather outre.

Bautam, "When You Say Nothing" was written by two of America's most cherished composers: Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz back in the 80's and was sung by a great country singer, the late Keith Whitley. Whitley's life is an interesting and sad example of the tortured artist drinking himself to death. The song was released posthumously and was widely believed to be a last message to his wife, popular country singer Lorrie Morgan who struggled valiantly to save him. While I haven't heard the film score, I'll never be ashamed to admit that I find the song moving and well written, not schmaltzy. Just a different view 'tis all.

Many of those mentioned above. In fact, my friends know that I have a very "wide" collection of music - some of which I'm not exactly proud!

"Two Little Boys" by Rolf Harris still makes hairs stand up on my neck, despite being one of the most cringe-worthy tracks of all time!

I liked Band of Gold by Freda Payne too, ehBeth.

I loved Under My Thumb, Rolling Stones (and still do) which describes an attitude that would, heh, irritate me in real life..

Under my thumb
The girl who once had me down
Under my thumb
The girl who once pushed me around
It's down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ain't it the truth babe?
Under my thumb
The squirmin' dog who's just had her day
Under my thumb
A girl who has just changed her ways
It's down to me, yes it is
The way she does just what she's told
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Ah, ah, say it's alright
Under my thumb
A siamese cat of a girl
Under my thumb
She's the sweetest, hmmm, pet in the world
It's down to me
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ah, take it easy babe
Yeah
It's down to me, oh yeah
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Yeah, it feels alright
Under my thumb
Her eyes are just kept to herself
Under my thumb, well i
I can still look at someone else
It's down to me, oh that's what I said
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Say, it's alright.
Say it's all...
Say it's all...
Take it easy babe
Take it easy babe
Feels alright
Take it, take it easy babe

Why is it a Pol. Incorrect song and if you changed it like I just did...it's sexy and novel? Any ideas? And why don't women write like that? It must cross their minds...or maybe they're just too evolved?...phone lines are open...

I have the same qualms with the thumbprint squishing in either direction... as an attitude. As a song it reflects how people feel, making it a good song, as in not-phony (to me). It may also be that the song triggers fantasy re being under thumb. or vice versa. Real life boors aren't desirable though, to me anyway.

Bill

Let me tell you that Meatloaf lives! He was recently performing here in Melbourne .... apparently around half the size he used to be! Shocked Did I go? Nah. I was never exactly a big fan, but had a friend who long ago indulged in secret, lest his cool image be blown. Laughing
