There's no reason why I would prefer to see anyone in this forum have a less than Merry Christmas, and I hope the day was grand for all of you. People should have a day or two of happiness and merriment throughout the year, no matter how ignorant or mean spirited they may otherwise be.

I have to laugh though at the warm wishes sent to David on this one day by people who on the other 364 love to tell him how sick and disturbed he is.

Being pleasently civil on Christmas is not so big a deal. It can't hurt, but it doesn't really win anyone an award.

I'm glad some folks have it in themselves to be nice to someone with whom they disagree at least one day a year, but forgive me if I don't see it as a sign of the loving message of Christmas.

@farmerman,
Of course you can, and good for you that you do.

However, since even now you resort to invective (and we can rest assured that you will return to such an approach in full measure tomorrow) demonstrates how hollow your expression of good tidings and well wishes actually is.

But, if it makes you feel good about yourself, who am I to question it?

Happy New Year.

You're right. One does not have to be in complete agreement with David to see that he is one of the nicest and friendliest A2K members.

On a personal, individual level, there are nice people in both of the major parties. But the meanspiritedness is on both sides of the political spectrum.

@Finn dAbuzz,
I hope you have a Merry Christmas Finn and don't spend all your time fretting about how the house over the road has a slightly better tree than yours.

I do wish each and every one of you the best for the holiday season and the new year as well. I do not post much on A2K any more due to time constraints, but rest assured all is well on planet Chum.

Still married to the same wonderful woman (16 years), still teaching full-time (6 years), still playing music when I can, still prefer pragmatism over idealism, and I still consider the most important consideration to be that of ensuring the survival of mankind.

Merry Christmas to all. I was wondering how long David could go without mentioning guns. Turns out it's two minutes, initial post 10:10, guns make great gifts 10:12. I'd say not getting shot makes a better gift, and that's what I'd wish all of us.
At my sister's, we always play the CD of Capt. Picard/Patrick Stewart as Ebenezer Scrooge in Dickens' "A Christmas Carol", and in Dickens' words, "God bless us, every one." (The movie version he was in seems to be online on youtube, but with Russian dialogue over the English dialogue--someone should tell gungasnake to watch it).

The CD makes us all cry, every year. Dickens and Stewart rock.
