Sorry.

There have been no additions to the Bible for some time. We have to dig into what's already there. Roman numerals instead of calculus. But II is still 2.

That's a misdirection. There is no reason to think that the Bible is an accurate account of the universe. There is no evidence that can be presented that it's true. Science, on the other hand, is based on observation, continual correction, continual comparison to new observations, and math. The Bible, on the other hand, is an uncheckable fairy tale.

Agreed.
Of course, I never claimed it to be.

Youre kind of losing the argument by your dumb default positions ya know.

Nah mate, we holy men don't do "lose"..Smile
"They couldn't beat Paul in arguments because of his wisdom and the spirit" (Acts 6:10)
Jesus said: "I've beaten the world" (John 16:33)

@Romeo Fabulini,
Could it be that you just realize that you made a dumass statement and are just trying to make the best face?

Whatever dude. Believe in Jayzus or Klaatu (actually I believe his robots name was GORT in the Rene version).

That's about the fifth time you've posted the Jayzus on a SChwinn clip. It seems to make my point that you ARE trying to do "win or lose"
Once again, you've exposed your own logic flaws

Right, again.
But my aside with Brandon was about whether the bible provides an accurate account of the universe.

Well, yeah. It's not a scientific treatise.

Should it be?

@neologist,
No, but it can hardly be source of wisfom or guidance when it doesn't even know the world is round.

As if it would make much of a difference to an agrarian society, it has a few things right:
Quote:
(Isaiah 40:22) . . .There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth. . .
Quote:
(Job 26:7) . . .He is stretching out the north over the empty place, Hanging the earth upon nothing;

Yeah. I know we went over this a few years ago. . . .

Maybe not, but it does make specific assertions about the nature of the universe, for example, that an omnipotent being existed who created the universe and watches over mankind. There is zero evidence that this is so.

The argument being presented in this thread is essentially this: "Step 39 of your physics argument seems a little shaky, so I choose to believe an ancient book without a particle of evidence to suggest that any of it is true."

If you expect epistemological certainty, it ain't gonna happen.

@Romeo Fabulini,
"God hangs the earth on nothing" (Job 26:7)

It doesn't "hang" anywhere. Our lump of rock is chasing its sun, which is on its own orbit, within a universe that is itself, in a small orbit, which is part of a larger orbit, within a larger orbit, ad infinitum.

Estimated speed of our Earth is 66600 mph, which, ironically, is the fabled number of the beast.
