Question about appropriate statistic test to use

Hi All, I'm about ready to conduct some research, and I want to make sure I;m using the right methodology. My design is pretty straight forward: I want to study how the effects of X on Y differ between males and females.

@EricB,
chi-square with sex as your grouping variable so long as the output of Y is nominal. T-test if it's continuous and normally distributed. A nonparametric alternative if it's not.
