Hi, I' not sure which of the following is correct?
(1) ....exploring the relationship between diet and the subject’s degree of, or propensity to obesity.
(2) ....exploring the relationship between diet and the subject’s degree or propensity to obesity.
My question is, normally we say "a person's degree of obesity" and "a person's propensity to obesity". What's the correct way to put them together?
I'm not a native speaker, and have been trying to google this out, but haven't found any similar examples.
Thanks for your help!
@k9power,
1) is better Pow because 2) momentarily suggests a correlation between the subject's education and his girth
…even though I'm apparently the only participant guilty of such momentary misapprehensions
In 1) I might have placed a comma after "to"
@k9power,
Quote:(1) ....exploring the relationship between diet and the subject’s degree of, or propensity to obesity.
What's the correct way to put them together?
It depends on what you are trying to say. Number (1) says,
....exploring the relationship between diet and the subject’s degree of [existing level of obesity], or [their (future)] propensity to obesity.
