It's often assumed that God created Satan, knowing in advance that he would sin, hardly an evidence that "God is love". Why then, would God create such an individual? The answer lies in our attribute of free will. All intelligent creations, including angels, have free will. The one we call 'Satan'
chose to rebel at a most inconvenient time for humanity. Perhaps he had some idea he could be successful in derailing God's purpose to his own ends Just don't forget that, in the account of the rebellion, in Genesis 3:15, God foretells the destruction of the serpent, the one called Satan.
BTW, satan is not a name, but a title, meaning 'rebel' or 'resister'.
